Coming on September 13, 2010: Frontiers of Trauma Treatment: Professional Training for Practitioners who Work with Trauma Clients and PatientsBessel A. van der Kolk M.D. will visit the North Shore for a training session on September 13, 2010. Dr. van der Kolk has been active as a clinician, researcher and teacher in the area of posttraumatic stress and related phenomena since the 1970s. His work integrates developmental, biological, psychodynamic and interpersonal aspects of the impact of trauma and its treatment. His book, Psychological Trauma was the first integrative text on the subject, painting the far ranging impact of trauma on the entire person and the range of therapeutic issues which need to be addressed for recovery. As part of the day's trainings, a second presentation, “Suicide and Para-suicidal Assessment,” will be presented by Jack Petras, LMHC. Mr. Petras is vice president of Emergency Services for Health & Education Services. He has extensive experience in emergency mental health clinical settings and has conducted many trainings on suicide and para-suicidal assessment. CE credits are available for social workers, LMHC and nurses. This training is funded in part by the Evelyn Lily Lutz Foundation of Beverly, Massachusetts.
